Importance of eye tests

In Scotland, all residents are entitled to a free NHS eye test every two years, every year if you are under 16 years old or over 60 years old, or more frequently if necessary. This makes it easier to detect and prevent eye conditions.

Routine eye tests help detect common eye diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. Eye tests can also identify signs of other health conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure.

Regular eye exams ensure that your prescription is up to date, helping you see clearly and avoid issues like eye strain and headaches. For drivers this is essential to ensure they are meeting the DVLA driving standards.

For children, regular tests can detect vision problems early. Undiagnosed vision issues could affect a child’s performance at school.

A Better Vision is Our Responsibility

There are other tests involved in getting your eyes tested that the optician does according to your needs and presenting symptoms.

Even if you think everything is ok its always worth getting your eyes tested every two years, or every year if you are under 16, over 60, diabetic or have glaucoma or are a close relative of a glaucoma patient.
